Meet the Team
Judy Saunders-Jones
Judith Saunders-Jones is a diversity trainer and facilitator, equity and inclusion specialist, and the Equity and Inclusion Officer for Carroll County Public Schools. She has been in education for the Maryland Public School System for over 27 years and is the 2019 recipient of the Jack Epstein Award for contributions in Multicultural Education.
Judith has multiple certifications including Deep Equity Facilitation and Equity and Excellence in Education. She served on multiple boards and has experience in program development, budget management and grant coordination and compliance.
She has a successful history of organizing programs on equity and cultural proficiency and provides leadership in establishing system-wide staff development goals, needs and priorities for equity.
She is often requested to be a guest speaker, and trainer, and to facilitate discussions around diversity, equity, and inclusion. She is the co-founder of Jones & Smith Racial Healing Clinic.
Richard Maurice Smith, Ph.D.
Richard M. Smith is an Associate Professor of Sociology, the Special Advisor to the Provost on Diversity Initiatives, and the 2020 recipient of the Ira G. Zepp Distinguished Teaching Award at McDaniel College.
He has taught numerous courses in Race and Racism, African American Culture, Social Psychology, Religion, and Criminal Justice for nearly two decades. Additionally, he is a Diversity Consultant and Trainer for Carroll County Public Schools.
A sought after speaker and consultant, he has also worked with religious, cultural, and healthcare organizations to meet diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. As a qualitative researcher, he has conducted focus groups and developed strategic plans to address organizational issues.
He earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from Temple University. His research has focused on topics in the areas of race and racism, African American culture, and religious organizations. He is the co-founder of Jones & Smith Racial Healing Clinic.
